We stumbled upon this place after a hike in the area on Christmas Day and decided to take a chance and get on the wait list to dine in. This was the most amazing Christmas meal a girl could ask for! The service was spectacular. My family and I enjoyed every single bite of our food. We will definitely be back.

A supremely tasty and authentic Cantonese-inspired American Chinese restaurant serving dressed-up versions of Chinese classics such as Chow Fun, Sweet and Sour Shrimp, Lo Mein, and Beef Stir Fry. Everything pairs nicely with rice, and the aroma of wok hei permeates the entire restaurant. As someone who has eaten this type of cuisine my whole life, Yang Chow does Cantonese food right. Highly recommended if in the area and in the mood for some Chinese home cooking.

This restaurant in Los Angeles is famous for its patrons that have come into eat. Well let me tell you, the Slippery Shrimp are worth drive from Orange Country to eat. We ordered the shrimp, Kung pow beef, fried rice, and sauced green beans. The beef was good and the fried rice were good. It seems that everywhere we go and order steamed rice, it just seems bland to blah. Nothing special. But the Slippery Shrimp was the bomb. It is their own recipe and it is very similar to Orange chicken, but it is shrimp. So good. As for the green beans, we always compare them to our favorites so they have a hard time matching up. They good, but not as good as the one in San Gabriel. Will be back for more shrimp

There is a parking lot. It seems small but there were quite a few spaces. The inside has booth seating and round table seating. We tried the spicy szechun wonton soup, yang chow fried rice, moo shu pork, and fish with black bean sauce. Very pleasantly surprised how everything was so tasty. Pricing was a bit more than regular traditional chinese restaurants but the service was spectacular. Upon entering the restaurant you feel very welcomed by staff. When they come around and serve you they are just so friendly and helpful. They look like just an old, little restaurant from the outside but it's definitely worth a visit..or more. Food and service was great!

I remember when Yang Chow in DTLA Chinatown was considered the top place in town back in the mid 1990's. When I moved to Temple City in the SGV, I was excited that there was a second branch open 10 minutes from me. Unfortunately, my experiences were not great. What remained great? Their amazing wonton soup and crispy noodles. Whenever I got a cold, this was the place to grab some soups. Recently, I started going again and found that it's very important what you order and how you order it. They used to have pretty good kung pao chicken, but I think is now one of their worst and most inedible dishes. It tastes like the sauce is made with ketchup. I can't eat it here. And kung pao is one of my favorite dishes. Their potstickers are excellent, but they will come out barely pan fried unless you order them pan fried but extra crispy. Trust me! You're going to want to order most things extra crispy, as well. The slippery shrimp will be limp if you don't. If you do order it extra crispy, you get nice, crispy, though tiny, frozen shrimps that are much closer to the way it was 30 years ago. I noticed everyone who posts Yelp pics orders the szechuan beef, which is like a beef version of spicy orange chicken. Order it extra crispy - notice a theme here?! It's sweet, like the slippery shrimp, but it's very good when it is crispy as heck. The dry sautéed string beans with shredded pork are also excellent. Just tried the sliced chicken in garlic sauce, which I ordered extra spicy. It was pretty good. Sadly, absolutely nothing here labeled as spicy is even remotely spicy. I also recommend going when they are busiest, since there still isn't going to be a huge wait, but I believe this is when the best cooking is done with the freshest ingredients. So Saturday or Sunday night is best in my opinion. It's not authentic Chinese food. It's Americanized. And, that probably makes it less of an attraction in the SGV suburban Chinatown, but sometimes you just want that old-fashioned Americanized Chinese food as a break from the more authentic places. For now, I'll be a regular again and do recommend it. Remember, their wonton soup is the best. So, keep that in mind in winter time when you get your next cold.
